This course is an opportunity to understand more about glazes and how to get the results you are looking for. There will be time spent learning and studying the chemistry, mixing glazes and making tests to discover what happens when the ingredients are altered. During the second day we will be able to assess the results from the experiments and share our learning with the group. The course content includes looking at What Is A Glaze? Glaze Materials, Oxides, Health & Safety, Making & Applying Glazes, The Firing Cycle and our own glaze experimentation. All students will be working with Stoneware glazes fired to 1250℃. You will need to bring your own scales that can measure down to 0.1g, additionally it would be helpful to have a collection of empty lidded jars or containers should you wish to transport your glazes home. Glaze materials, oxides and other equipment will be provided, as will a respirator mask. You will be provided with printed material, it will be useful for you to have the means to take notes and keep a record of your results. Please bring your own lunch.
